Saturday October 04, 2014 - 09:00 am — St. Margaret Mary Elementary School - Hamilton
IN PARTNERSHIP WITH GREEN VENTURE, ST. MARGARET MARY’S SCHOOL HAS BEEN SELECTED AS THE HAMILTON DEPAVE PROJECT FOR 2014 AND WE NEED YOUR HELP! We would like to invite you to join us at St. Margaret Mary Elementary School (25 Brentwood Dr, Hamilton, ON) on September 27th and October 4th for Hamilton’s largest Depave Paradise. St. Margaret Mary Catholic Elementary School and Green Venture, a local not-for-profit, are teaming up to host Depave Paradise on Saturday, September 27th from 9:00am-1:00pm and Saturday, October 4th from 9:00am-1:00pm. DEPAVE PARADISE is a project of Green Communities Canada that engages volunteers and neighbourhoods in Canadian communities, removing pavement and planting gardens filled with native species in its place. Hard surfaces, such as driveways, parking lots and buildings, interrupt the natural water cycle by preventing rain water from soaking into the ground. This in turn creates urban heat islands that are warming up our cities. By removing pavement and replacing it with green space, we are increasing the infiltration rate of rain water, cooling our neighbourhoods, keeping our water clean, and providing us and our children with greater connections to the natural world. Bring your family and friends, young and old, and join St. Margaret Mary’s School and partners transform the schoolyard pavement into a vibrant and engaging green space for all to enjoy! Volunteers are needed! This is a family friendly event and all are welcome. We will provide all necessary tools and safety equipment as well as food and drinks. Please arrive dressed for the weather (Rain or Shine!), wearing sturdy shoes and be ready to get your hands dirty. On September 27th, we will be working to remove over 1000 square feet of asphalt from the schoolyard to increase the school’s green, play space. Then on October 4th, we will fill the space with a native species rain garden. This is Hamilton’s biggest Depave yet, adding to over 10,000 square feet depaved across Canada through the Depave Paradise program, and we need your help! To RSVP or for more information, please contact Deirdre Connell at 905-540-8787 x 113 or

Earth Art, also known as “Ephemeral Art”, is an exciting genre of art that has emerged out of the contemporary world’s growing environmental consciousness. Art is created using natural elements – earth, stone, trees, plants, and even ice, and begin a dialogue with nature. Artists (both international and Canadian) arrive on June 15 to create original earth art installations from materials found on RBG's landscape. The installations will be completed on July 1, and the exhibit will run until October 13, 2014. Visitors will be able to attend a Curator’s presentation night, participate in related arts education programs, and enjoy special evening tours. Regular admission applies. Visit for more information.
