The sweet sounds of recorders, viol and harpsichord can be heard at the Rosewood Consort's Spring Concert on May 4th at Grace Lutheran Church at 7:30 pm. "How Suite It Is" opens with an early 17th century Suite by Johann Hermann Schein and includes not only the early 18th century Quartettino by Alessandro Scarlatti but also the 20th century masterpiece, the Capriol Suite by Peter Warlock. To add original suites to the mix, the Consort will play two traditional Canadian folk song collections from Quebec and Newfoundland, Suite Quebecoise and Suite from The Rock, arranged by Bob Rivers, Rosewood's versatile and gifted music director. Suite from The Rock is making its world premiere.
An added attraction is the solo recorder performance by guest artist Colin Savage, who has played with ensembles in Canada, USA and Japan, including Toronto's Tafelmusik, Canadian Opera Company, and Opera Atelier. He will play a 17th century work by Jacob van Eyck as well as selections from the challenging 20th century Virtuose Suite by Hans Ulrich Staeps.
