Angel unveiled after two years

By Craig Campbell, News Staff

Julia Kollek’s Angel painting was unfurled after two years and is now on display at St. James Anglican Church in Dundas.

Created while on an artistic retreat to Spain in 2010, the painting is inspired by a work called The Inspiration of St. Matthew by Caravaggio and was done in a 15th century Spanish monastery near Barcelona.

“This painting, beginning with its creation in a 15th century monastery near Barcelona and the subsequent journey it ahs taken me on, has brought many good things into my life,” Kollek said. “I’ve had the opportunity to learn how to paint, where before I sketched in pencil only, met interesting people and had fun bringing this exhibit to life.”

After her painting sat rolled up for two years, Kollek approached St. James. The church is in her neighbourhood and she’s attended art shows there in the past. She asked if the church was interested in showing her work. Angel will remain on display until the end of the month.

Kollek’s goal is to see the painting travel across the city, then be auctioned off for charity.

Anyone interesting in hosting the painting should contact Kollek at jkollek2@gmail.com
