Former Sabres ignite thrilling Olympic come back

Former Stoney Creek Junior Sabres players Brianne Jenner and Laura Fortino have helped Canada strike gold in women’s hockey at the Sochi Winter Olympics.

Former Junior Sabres player Fortino assisted on Marie-Philip Poulin’s second goal of the game in overtime to lift Canada to a 3-2 win over rivals the U.S.

Canada trailed 2-0 with under four minutes to play when Jenner scored on a wrist shot to bring Canada within a goal at 2-1.

With the Canadian net empty, a U.S. clearing attempt hit the post, giving the Canadians one last chance.

Seconds later, Poulin scored her first of two to knot the score at 2-2.

Canada, the defending Olympic champion, was 3-0 in round robin play.
