Garth Zulak’s foursome carried off top honours in the first Ancaster Avalanche Junior Hockey Club Golf Tournament with a low net score of -15 under par over the par 71, 18-hole course at Heron Point Golf Links on Monday.
The foursome of Zulak, Wayne Pearce, Murray Drinkwalter and Kevin Harris beat out 23 other groupings for Club Links Golf and Southcote 53 prize package. A field of 90 golfers took part in the event sponsored by RBC, Molson’s Breweries, Heron Point, and Southcote 53 and a number of new team sponsors representing many businesses in the Ancaster area.
”It was a great experience for everyone. The staff at Heron Point and Southcote treated us well, and our volunteers did a tremendous job for us,” said Brian Lewis, Avalanche marketing director.
”Our goal in all of this is to run a first-class organization, and for the first time running a tournament like this, we feel we hit the mark,” Lewis added.
Serge Jovanovic captured the Closest to the Pin competition, with Jeremy Setzkorn winning the Longest Drive. Dave Eccles won the Putting Contest.
”I feel that the tournament went very well,” said Ancaster Avalanche owner Ron Van Kleef.
“Our sponsors, players, staff, and our volunteers all pulled together to make our first attempt at running a tournament like this a meaningful event. We have had tremendous support from the community in all of this.”
