Winning streak puts Dundas in second place

By Larry Robertson, Special to the News

Dundas Real McCoys are riding a four-game winning streak and have a five-game home winning streak going as well, very different from their home ice performance of a year ago.

The streaks, combined with the top five Allan Cup Hockey League scoring performances by Cam Watson and Brad Kenny, have elevated the McCoys to second place in the league.

Last Friday night in Brantford, the Blast did everything in its power to slow down the McCoys, but still came out on the short end 5-4 as Watson, the league-scoring leader, scored the game-winner at 12:11 of the third period on a play set up by Scott Mifsud and Brad Kenny. Watson heads Allan Cup Hockey scoring with 29 goals and 20 assists for 49 points in 20 games, which is more than double his scoring output for all of last season. Kenny is in a tie for third spot with 40 points (13-27), and is slightly ahead of last season’s pace.

This Friday (Feb. 3) is Tim Hortons Night iat J.L. Grightmire Arena, featuring free thunder sticks to the first 400 fans. Also, fans can get free Kids Tickets at either of the two Dundas Tim Hortons locations, 86-94 Main Street, and 38 York Road in Dundas.
“It is shaping up to be a great night with the Norwood Vipers in town. They are fighting for a playoff position right now,” said General Manager Don Robertson.
Game time is 7:45 p.m.

Last Friday at the Brantford Community Centre, the two clubs were deadlocked at 2-2 as Brantford outshot the McCoys 17-13. In the second, things did not get much better for Dundas in the shot department. On the scoreboard, it was a different story as the Real McCoys went ahead 2-1 on the period and 4-3 on the night, forcing the Blast to tie the score at 2:11 of the third on a goal by Ryan Healy. Watson scored 10 minutes later as Dundas outshot the Blast 12-8. The Blast outshot the McCoys 40-32, but the Real McCoys posted the victory.

Also scoring for Dundas were Mike Amodeo with two goals and singles by Darryl Smith and Kenny. Amodeo had a three-point night. In addition to Healy’s three-point effort, the Blast got four points from Chad Spur (two goals, two assists), and a final goal from Greg Bullock.
