Cam Watson (7) and Scott Mifsud (13) supplied the one-two scoring punch for Dundas as the McCoys edged the Whitby Dunlops 4-3 in a shootout.

Two goals and two assists by Scott Mifsud last Friday night propelled the Dundas Real McCoys leading scorer into first place in Allan Cup Hockey scoring race with 15 goals and 26 assists for 41 points in 17 games.

Three of the McCoys occupy the top 10 spots in league scoring this season.  Cam Watson is second with 18 goals and 17 assists for 35 points, while Joe Koudys occupies eighth place with 10 goals and 17 assists.

Mifsud and Watson figured prominently in last Friday’s game as the McCoys edged the third-place Whitby Dunlops 4-3 in the shootout.  However, it was two goals in 13 seconds in the third period that allowed Whitby to force overtime that had everyone at J.L. Grightmire Arena for the McCoys Pink in the Rink Night on edge until Mifsud notched the game-winner.

”Last Friday, was another excellent hockey game that was played in our barn,” said Dundas president and general manager Don Robertson. “The Dunlops showed again that they are a force to be reckoned with within the league.

“It’s going to be interesting to see how the final standing will break down, and which team will play which team in the first round of the playoffs.”

Mifsud scored the winner last Friday night after Pete MacKellar, John Scrymgeour and Brett McConnachie’s shots failed to find their way past Dundas goalkeeper Mike Mole in the shootout rounds.

Darryl Smith and Mifsud had a goal and two assists each during regulation time. Cam Watson added the other goal.

The following night the two clubs were to meet again at Whitby, however, hazardous driving conditions prevented Dundas from making the trip. A date and time for the re-scheduled game will be announced shortly.

Dundas leads Allan Cup Hockey with 14 wins, three losses and one shootout loss for 29 points. Brantford is second with 27 points (13-4-0-1). Dundas has six games left to play in the 2013-14 schedule, including last Saturday’s postponed game against Whitby.

Friday night, Feb. 7, the McCoys travel to the Brantford Community Centre at 7:30 p.m.  Sunday, Feb. 9, they face off against the Stoney Creek Generals in the Gateway Ice Complex at 2:30 p.m.   Friday, Feb. 14, the McCoys host Norwood at 7:30 p.m. before heading to Welland the following day. Their final regularly scheduled game will be Friday, Feb. 21 against Brantford at Grightmire Arena,  7:30 p.m.
