Former Stoney Creek Junior Sabres defender and Bishop Tonnos graduate Laura Fortino is en route to Olympic women's hockey semifinal ice.

Three cheers…and more…for Laura Fortino

Bishop Tonnos Secondary School is so proud of former Titan Laura Fortino, who is representing Canada on the women’s hockey team in the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, that a Red and White Day has been planned  to celebrate her achievement.

The Red and White Day assembly takes place on Monday, Feb. 10 at 9:30 am. Those in attendance will hear from Fortino’s coaches, teachers and, hopefully a message from Fortino herself. The group will then tune in to the game to cheer on Laura and the Canadian women on the ice.

Fortino brings the BT Titan community great pride,”said Steve Maga, co-instructional head at BT.

“She is a true role model — a humble woman with a dedicated work ethic, strong faith and amazing hockey prowess. She had a dream to make the Olympic team, and she did that.

“The other half of her dream is to bring home the gold. We are going to help her do that by cheering her and her teammates on. We look forward to this great event as it has the potential to further inspire our students to dream big, believe in themselves and their God-given talents and abilities and to seek excellence in all that they do.”
