Sorensen, Genovy join Marauders volleyball squad

One of Barton Secondary School’s best athletes will be hitting the floor with the McMaster Marauders volleyball team in the fall.
Maicee Sorensen, who’s a star with the Mountain Volleyball Club, signed a letter of intent this month.
The 6-foot-tall Sorensen was the 2011-2012 female athlete of the year at Barton.
“McMaster is one of the better known universities in all of Canada for both academics and athletics,” said Sorensen. “People walk proud in Marauder clothing here in Hamilton. I really can’t describe how thrilled I am to be both attending Mac and playing for the Marauders this year.”
Her co-captain on the MVC U18 team, Caitlin Genovy, a Saltfleet student, is also heading to Mac.
McMaster women’s volleyball coach Tim Louks said he believes the pair will bring a jolt of energy to the lineup.
“Sorensen is a fast learner and eager to compete,” he said. “She immediately makes us better in the middle, but may move to an outside role in the future.”
