Team looks to build on four-game win streak
Make it four in a row for the Senior AAA Stoney Creek Generals.
Stoney Creek continued its surprising run towards the Allan Cup Hockey playoffs with a dominant 9-2 win over the Welland Whalers last Saturday.
The Generals’ Matt Smith stole the show in the third period with four straight goals. Smith, who also scored the Generals’ first goal in the opening period, has an astounding seven goals and one assist in two games since joining the team.
Jamie Visser, Kyle McQuade, Jordan Prevost and Cole McNeil also scored for Stoney Creek, (9-7-1-1). The expansion Generals are firmly cemented in the fourth and final Allan Cup Hockey playoff spot, with a 10-point advantage over Welland.
Home fans will be able to catch all the action during the regular season home stretch, as five of the Generals’ six remaining games will be played at Gateway Ice Centre. The Generals are back in action this Sunday, (Jan. 26) at home against the Whitby Dunlops. Game time is 2:30 p.m. at Gateway Ice Centre.
In other news, the Generals’ Kyle McQuade has been named Allan Cup Hockey’s player of the month for December.
The Grimsby native appeared in five games in December, scoring six goals and two assists for eight points. As of Jan. 23, McQuade has 17 goals and 13 assists for 30 points this season.
McQuade is one of four Generals averaging more than a point per game this season, (minimum 10 appearances) along with Kyle Zettler, Matthew Reynolds and Nathan Pageau.
