Saltfleet Storm wins OFSAA gold in girls hockey

The Saltfleet Storm has captured another provincial championship, this time in girls hockey.

Mackenzie McCullough turned aside all 20 shots and Hunter French scored the game’s only goal in the first period as the Storm beat Holy Cross Secondary School 1-0 to win the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations AAA/Quad-A championship on Friday in Sudbury.

Saltfleet allowed only four goals in five games and dominated its opening round opponents. The Storm beat St. Ignatius of Loyola, 6-0 and És Macdonald Cartier 7-0 before skating to a 1-1 tie with the eventual silver medallists.

Saltfleet defeated Pickering High School 5-3 to open the medal round, setting up a rematch with Holy Cross.

See the Stoney Creek News’ March 27 print edition for more coverage.

Earlier this month, Saltfleet’s boys basketball team also won an OFSAA title.
