Brianna and Jesse Pecore rode to victory while representing Ontario on the saddle at the Canadian Interprovincial Equestrian Championships Sept. 13 to Sept. 15 in Calgary, Alta.
Competing as juniors and seniors, the Stoney Creek siblings helped the province’s three-member reining team earn a bronze medal at the multidisciplinary event.
“It was Ontario’s first time having a reining team at the championships, so getting the bronze medal felt really good,” 17-year-old Brianna said. “It was shocking when they called our names because I didn’t expect it. All of the other reining teams were so good, so it was pretty amazing.”
Jesse, 18, also picked up a silver medal in senior individual reining and received the Reining Sportsmanship and Best Leased Horse awards.
Ontario’s team, which also featured eight dressage riders and jumpers from across the province, scored a silver medal overall at the event.
“There was such strong competition, so to get the silver medal was a huge shock,” Jesse said. “Receiving the other two awards was an even bigger shock; when they announced my name, I couldn’t believe it, I was extremely happy. I think Ontario’s entire team did the province proud.”
