Redeemer’s Brown earns OCAA honours

It was a big day for the Redeemer Royals women’s basketball program and its future as first year player Jesseca Brown captured the OCAA West Division Rookie of the Year award, was named an OCAA first Team All-Star, and was named to the OCAA All-Rookie team.

Brown led the Royals to their first win in seven years as the team finished the season with a total of six wins.

As a rookie, she finished in sixth overall in the entire OCAA in scoring with 17.2 points per game. She finished with a total of 310 points for Redeemer in 18 games. Brown also had one of the best seasons ever by a Redeemer Women’s Basketball player. She broke the Redeemer record for points in a season by one point as she bumped Redeemer Hall of Famer Anita Kralt to second place (309). Her 17.2 points per game tied Kralt for first place with the best points per game average ever by a Royal.

Not only did Brown break a number of season records, she also set a number of game records. She now holds the top two spots in the Royals record book with her 31 and 29 points this season against Niagara (the final game of the season) and Sault College. She also sits in a tie for third place with her 27 points she scored against Mohawk in the first semester.
