The Stoney Creek Novice AE Warriors won the 27th annual Ace Bailey Tournament in Stoney Creek Oct. 18-21.
This team is one of the youngest in its age group, consisting of two six year olds, seven seven year olds and eight eight year olds competing in an eight-year-old age group from surrounding areas across southern Ontario.
They won their round robin games against Flamborough (4-3) and Innisfil (5-0) and were on top of their division. They met up with Waterloo ending up on top (4-3) and advancing to the championship game against the heavily-favoured Whitby Wildcats.
Down 2-0 early, they were still ready to play, with great support from the stands and their community.
The little Warriors tied it up with a minute to go, forcing the game to overtime, going four on four for the first minute.
With 30 seconds left, they managed to get it past Whitby defence and “river,” then took it home on a breakaway to win the game 6-5.
