The Mountain Volleyball Club (MVC) 17U Girls won the Gold medal at the 17U Challenge Cup – Championship Division in Ingersoll.
Finishing third overall in their pool, MVC 17U lost both matches to Forest City Green 16U 25-16, 25-20 and Burlington Blaze Black 25-22, 25-22.
Heading into the pre-quarters, MVC 17U fought back winning a close match against the Hespeler Scorpions 25-23, 20-25, 15-10 and then followed up with another win in the quarter finals defeating Oakville Thunder Blue 25-19, 25-18.
In the semifinals, MVC 17U met up with Burlington Blaze Black Blaze and came out on top 25-19, 25-22.
In the championship match, MVC 17U faced Forest City Green and after losing the first set 25-18, they rallied to win the next two sets 25-23, 15-12 to capture the Gold medal and advance to the Premier division for their next 17U tournament in February.
The MVC 17U team is coached by Steve Bonazza and Ben Goerzen of St. Catharines.
The MVC 17U roster includes Vicky Golebiowski of Binbrook, Madison Lenders, Hayley Genovy and Jenna Mazza-Anthony of Stoney Creek, Savannah Browne of Hamilton Mountain and athletes from Burlington, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls.
