Hughes waiting for final word

By Craig Campbell, Dundas

Dundas native Mackenzie Hughes was off the golf course Friday afternoon waiting to find out if his final round even-par 71 is good enough to advance to the second stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying School.

After two rounds of two-under 69 and two rounds of even par, Hughes sat at a score of four under par 280 for the four round stage – in a tie for 23rd place. Only the top 19 scores and ties will advance to the second round.

Just one stroke off the cut, Hughes was waiting for the final results of 12 other golfers to find out for sure if he will advance to the second of three stages necessary to qualify for a PGA Tour membership.

Hughes bogeyed the second hole of the day, Friday afternoon, then birdied the fifth hole, and picked up a par on every other hole of the round.
