Hamid Nessek has committed to McMaster's basketball program.
ACMT basketball star Hamid Nessek has committed to join the McMaster Marauders for next season.
One of the top graduating players in Ontario, Nessek has been a standout on the powerhouse team at Academie Catholique Mere-Teresa on the east Mountain and was rated one of the top 25 players in the country by Canadian recruiting website Northpole Hoops.
The point guard, who maintained a 90 per cent academic average, was being recruited by several schools on both sides of the border, including some in the Ivy League.
McMaster men’s basketball coach Amos Connolly said Nessek is a terrific athlete who displays tremendous court sense, is a great passer, and combines offence and defence. As a point guard, he . He is also an outstanding student who has an academic average over 90%.
“Hamid instantly adds some more explosiveness to our back court,” said the Maroon mentor. “His strong work ethic and willingness to defend will provide us with another dynamic as we continue to build a championship calibre program.”
Nessek said he believes McMaster was the best choice to meet his long-term goals. “It’s an institution that is greatly regarded for its health-oriented programs, and I personally want to become a doctor in the long run, therefore it’s a great fit,” said the all-star player. “Mac is also really close to home and I think as a player I can come in right away and have a positive impact on the team.”
