Robert Heppenstall won his third-straight Mark Graham Memorial 400m invitational race on Thursday.
He did it in 49.86 seconds, just 1/100th of a second slower than the record time he set last year.
Heppenstall, a Grade 11 student at St. Thomas More, finished nearly a second and a half ahead of Joel Neufville of Fletcher’s Meadow. Tom Manson of Highland ran third in a time of 53.41.
The annual race is run in memory of Pte. Mark Anthony Graham, a former Sir Allan MacNab student and four-time OFSAA 400m champion from 1989-1992 who ran for Canada in the Olympics. He was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2006, the first Hamilton soldier to die in combat for Canada since the Korean War.
Taysia Radoslav of Cardinal Newman won the Susan Kozak invitational 400m in a time of 56.41 seconds. She beat Evelyne Guay of Abbey Park (58.46) and Jenna Smith of Highland (58.61). Kozak was an OFSAA 400m champion who attended Delta.
