The Ancaster Avalanche peewee BB girls hockey team had an amazing time on and off the ice at the Detroit Motown Classic Girls’ Hockey Tournament.
Team members travelled in style aboard the Hamilton Bulldogs bus to the Motor City, played in an NHL arena and brought home some beautiful hardware.
On the ice the team scored a 4-1 victory over hard-working Ann Arbor after a thrilling 4-2 win over the Georgina Golden Hawks in a game played at the Joe Louis Arena, home of the NHL Red Wings. The girls took home silver medals after skating to a 0-0 tie in regulation, only to lose the championship in a shoot-out.
The girls let the Red Wings use The Joe for their Saturday night tilt against the Los Angeles Kings. At the game some of the girls were lucky enough to go down to the home team’s tunnel and high five the players coming out of the locker room.
One lucky Avalanche player — Heather Simpson — even joined the NHLers on the blue line for the national anthem.
