Dundas Real McCoys forward Jordan Freeman fights for a loose puck in front of Stoney Creek generals goaltender Daniel Svedin in Allan Cup Hockey playoff action Friday night at J.L. Grightmire Arena.

Dundas takes game 1

The Dundas Real McCoys scored five unanswered goals in the third period for an 11-6 victory over Stoney Creek in game one of the Allan Cup Hockey playoff semifinal series Friday night at J.L. Grightmire Arena.

Nick Smith, Scott Mifsud and Greg Stewart each scored a pair for the McCoys. Cam Watson, Darryl Smith, Ryan Christie, Joe Koudys and Jason Ward also bulged the twine, chasing Generals’ goaltender Daniel Svedin, who surrendered six goals on just 14 shots.

Kyle Zettler led the Generals with two goals. Singles were scored by Jordan Prevost, Matthew Reynolds, Jake Guindon and Dennis Maxwell.

The Generals led 5-3 early in the second period before Dundas went on to score eight of the game’s final nine goals.

After Svedin was pulled midway through the second period, Generals backup Mark Servos failed little better, allowing five goals on 26 shots.

The McCoys also replaced their starting netminder Mike Mole with backup Bryan Worosz. Worosz was beaten just once on 20 shots, after Mole gave up five goals on 14 shots.

Both teams had little trouble finding the net early on. The score was tied during both the first and second intermissions, at 3-3 and 6-6 respectively.

Game two goes tonight at 8 p.m. at Gateway Ice Centre in Stoney Creek. It will be the expansion Generals’ first ever home night game after playing all of its previous games during the mid-afternoon.

Tickets are $10 at the door.
