IBL club has four games in four days starting Thursday
Veteran Matt Martinow is expected to start on the mound when the Hamilton Cardinals head to Kitchener Thursday night looking for their third win of the Intercounty Baseball League season.
After seeing the first two games of the season suspended or cancelled, the Cards lost 12-4 to the Guelph Royals at Bernie Arbour Stadium last Friday.
But Hamilton bounced back with a 10-7 win in Guelph last Saturday and a 9-1 victory over six-time defending IBL champion Brantford Red Sox at Bernie Arbour Stadium last Sunday afternoon.
“The quality of our batting is exceptional,” said Cardinals field manager Matt Fortuna, who noted those three games were more like exhibition matches as players are still looking to work on their timing and hitting.
The Cards host the Toronto Maple Leafs Friday at 7:30 p.m.
They visit Brantford Saturday afternoon before returning to Bernie Arbour Stadium on Sunday for a 2 p.m. contest with Toronto.
Fortuna said he’s not concerned about playing four games in four days.
“We have a lot of depth,” said the Card’s skipper, who added he thinks it’s good for his troops to play a lot of games early in the season.
