Buckle wins Ontario title

Jason Buckle continues to collect accolades in a McMaster singlet.
Buckle won gold in the 61kg weight class at the Ontario University Association wrestling championships last Saturday. The reigning CIS Rookie of the Year was recognized as the Outstanding Male Wrestler at the conclusion of the meet
Buckle, a St. Jean de Brebeuf graduate, was one of two first-place finishes for the CIS no. 5-ranked McMaster men’s squad, as rookie Ahmed Shamiya won a 3-1 decision over Guelph’s Navrit Wirach to top the 57 kg division. Chris Garneau (65kg), Kevin MacLellan (82kg), and Andrew Balach (130kg) added silver medals — each worth eight points — to McMaster’s team total.
Topping off Buckle’s accolades this week, he was named the OUA’s top male athlete for the week of Feb. 11-17.
