The Ancaster Junior B Avalanche are looking to improve their 4-2 pre-season record as it heads into the 2013-14 Golden Horseshoe Conference season of the Greater Ontario Junior B Hockey League when it takes on the Guelph Hurricanes tonight, Aug. 29, in its final home pre–season game at Morgan Firestone Arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m. The two clubs will play a re-match at Guelph on Friday night.
The final two games will set the stage for the Avs Golden Horseshoe Conference home opener against the Buffalo Blades in the Morgan Firestone Arena on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in front of what promises to be a full house. Several promotions will be announced in the days leading up to the game, which will mark the return of Junior B hockey to Ancaster following a 20-year absence.
The Avalanche will host eight other teams in the Golden Horseshoe Conference three times throughout the 24-game home schedule before heading into the playoffs and a run for the Captain James T. Sutherland Cup.
This year the league consists of the Buffalo Blades, Caledonia Pro Fit Corvairs, Fort Erie Meteors, Niagara Falls Canucks, Port Colborne Pirates, St. Catharines Falcons, Thorold Blackhawks, and the Welland Junior Canadians.
Ancaster lost its opening game of the Port Colborne Junior Hockey Tournament last weekend 4-0 to Buffalo, and then fell 4-2 to host Port Colborne. The Avs, however, rallied to defeat Brampton 4-3.
Season tickets are now on sale. Special season-long reserved seating is being offered for adults at $150, and $75 for children, students and seniors. Single game pricing is $8 for adults and $5 for children, students, and seniors.
