Brantford Blast’s rally began with Mike Burgoyne’s shorthanded goal in the first period and culminated with Dave Russell’s early second-period goal as the Blast pinned a 5-4 loss on the Kenora Thistles in the opening game of the 2014 Allan Cup Tournament today in the JL Grightmire Arena.
Brantford’s next game is Wednesday (April 16) at 3:30 p.m. against Clarenville Newfoundland and Labrador Caribous at 3:30 p.m. in the Grightmire Arena. Clarenville Caribous plays its first game against Kenora at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday), while Dundas takes on Bentley Generals from Red Deer, Alberta at 7:30 p.m. that same night.
Joel Prpic paced the Brantford attack with a pair of goals while Chris Leveille added a goal and an assist. Burgoyne (shorthanded) and Russell added single goals.
Kenora’s lineup featured two former Real McCoys, TJ Sakaluk and Dan Pitre, both of whom were released by Dundas at the Ontario Hockey Association’s January 10 cutdown date.
