Hamilton minor football leagues merge

Hamilton Mountain News

Two minor football leagues have merged to form the Hamilton Football Association.

The Hamilton Minor Football Association and the Hamilton Wentworth Minor Football Association announced the merger Feb. 15.

Members of the new Football Hamilton board of governors will include representatives of the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats, the university McMaster Marauders and the senior Hamilton Hurricanes as well as Jim Gamble, president of the HMFA, who will become commissioner for house league (grassroots) football, and Brent Howlett, president of the HWMFA, who will assume the position of commissioner for varsity (rep) football.

Officials from the new association say the formation of Football Hamilton was achieved after discussions involving the HMFA and the HWMFA to consolidate resources. A merger committee has been meeting to create a new set of programs for youths ages seven to age 23.

The association has a website at footballhamilton.com.
