Sabres Midget A win Pink in the Rink

Stoney Creek News

The Stoney Creek Sabres Midget A girls hockey team won the gold medal at the Etobicoke Pink in The Rink Tournament last month.

The girls lost their first round robin game, but worked their way into the final with some timely goals and solid goaltending from Sam Keyes and Marissa Crabtree.

In the quarter-final against Sudbury, Kathryn Kennedy scored the game winner with less than one second left in the game to put the girls into the semifinal game against the Durham West team that had beat them in the opener.

This time, Stoney Creek beat Durham West 3-1 to go to the final against Guelph.

The championship game was scoreless through regulation and the first overtime and went to a shootout, where Ceili Randall popped in the game winner for the Sabres. Nicole Martin was the tournament MVP.
