I was extremely disappointed to hear Brad Clark say that “if people in Hamilton don’t like council’s decision, (regarding Sanctuary city) then they don’t have to live here.”
This is an extremely arrogant, narcissistic and disrespectful statement. Usually, these character traits are a microcosm of a much larger problem.
Hamilton city council has an inferiority complex. There are certain members of council who do not want progress; they try and sabotage any development or future prosperity for Hamilton. There is strong resistance within council against Hamilton evolving and developing into Canada’s next great city.
Certain councilors are content being the social service capital of Ontario, having our downtown core saturated with methadone clinics, halfway houses and homeless shelters.
Several city councilors do not have post secondary education; many of them came from a union background in the steel industry.
These councillors believe that as the steel industry struggles, so should Hamilton.
Our city deserves much better going into the next municipal election. We need strong candidates, with a strong vision for the city. We need outside the box ideas to force city council to venture out of the cave into the brave new world.
