’Tis the season for Dundas traditions

Last Friday evening, a large crowd of young and mature attended the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in Memorial Square in Downtown Dundas (In 1914, Dundas was the first community in Canada to have a municipal Xmas tree).

The event is jointly hosted by the Dundas Division of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Dundas BIA. Entertainment was provided by the Dundas Concert Band followed by a youth choir with some real upbeat music. Joan Ballantyne, with her glorious voice, acted as our hostess and led participants through many of the seasonal favourites in the lead-up to the arrival of Santa Claus.

This event is the start of A Dickens of a Christmas in downtown Dundas. View the BIA website at www.downtowndundas.ca for a detailed schedule. Also, visit University Plaza for their planned activities.

Starting Saturday, Dec. 1 through Dec 31, inclusive, parking is free in downtown Dundas but only in the city’s off-street municipal parking lots (on-street metered parking is maintained). This provides visitors adequate time to complete their seasonal shopping in Dundas’ shops.

Weather permitting, the Dundas Rotary Skating Rink in the Dundas Driving Park will soon open for winter usage with, hopefully, skating around Dec. 8/9.
