Snow day allows teacher to spend one-on-one time with children

 Sherrie Cheers, Dundas

Re: Bad weather? Keep kids home, Feb.13, The News.

This letter to the editor was very disheartening to read, particularly the sentence, “the few children who do go [to school during inclement weather] aren’t taught anything new because too many children are absent.”

Doesn’t being a teacher encompass “teaching” despite the number of students present in the classroom? And who says that reviewing previous lessons is a bad thing?

As a parent with children attending St. Bernadette Elementary School in Dundas, I count myself fortunate.

After picking my children up at the end of  a recent snow day, the teacher told me how much she enjoyed spending one-on-one time reading with my children.

At that time, I realized how fortunate we were to have a teacher with that perspective.
