Seniors wield plenty of power

Pam Penny,Chair, Dundas Active 55+ steering committee and seniors representative, Dundas community council.

According to the recently released Ontario’s Action Plan for Seniors, “by 2017, for the first time, Ontario will be home to more people over 65 than children under 15.”

At present, 20 per cent of the population of Dundas alone consists of residents who are aged 55-plus and these numbers are continually increasing in the Greater Hamilton area.

The provincial election is the perfect opportunity to find out how the candidates intend to deal with this particular issue, not just in Dundas, but across the province.

We are therefore encouraging everyone, especially those in the 55-plus age group, to voice your concerns, raise issues and ask questions of your local candidates at every opportunity available to you. The candidates need to understand that this very large segment of the population wields a lot of power when it comes to their votes and you need to understand that as a group you have that power.
