With Christmas 2012 behind us, there are many individuals, groups and organizations that need to be thanked for brightening an otherwise depressing time of year for those among us who need their support to survive. I am speaking mainly of low-income seniors, veterans, singles and families.
Countless individuals, groups and organizations try to do their best to make Christmas just a little bit brighter. You are all true heroes for so many and we need to say, “Thank you!”
Senator Hugh Segal has proposed a Guaranteed Annual Income for Canadians (GAI). I agree with what Senator Segal is saying from both a moral and a fiscal stand point.
Eliminate all the program duplication and waste and target the most vulnerable in society. I do believe that some Canadians need a hand. Not everyone who is in need is out to fraud the system.
I am calling on all levels of government to get behind this initiative so that everyone in our society can have a basic standard of living.
Whether you are a Conservative, Liberal or a New Democratic Party supporter, we are Canadians first and we should be doing all that we can to help our fellow Canadians who are in need, not just at Christmas time but throughout the year.
