Ontario poor need action, not thoughts

Trish Johnston, Dundas

Re: Cherish each and every day, Ted McMeekin’s column, Dec. 12.

The poor, the disabled and the vulnerable that Mr. McMeekin “thinks about every day” need action through sustainable policy changes to eliminate income inequity (poverty) once and for all.  No one can live on the meager monthly rates of social assistance: $600 (welfare) or $900 (disability) or $1,500 (senior pension top up with the Guaranteed Income Supplement).

Society needs action from a government MPP and the Liberal party, not thoughts about serious systemic issues.

Mr. McMeekin’s salary is in the $161,000 range. I wish him a very comfortable Christmas while he thinks about the poor and vulnerable.
