Some councillors still don’t get it

Re: City politicians defend adding staff. Ancaster News, February 21.

Some councillors still don’t get it.

The city is looking to hire 8.5 (?) full-time employees to add to some overworked councillors’ offices. Given the almost daily media reports of the ‘bloated’ public sector surely it should not be too difficult to find 8.5 bodies with time on their hands among the many already at city hall to fill these positions.

Hiring extra staff, under the present financial conditions, should be the last thing on a councillors agenda.

The same goes for councillor McHattie’s financially irresponsible suggestion that Hamilton should follow Toronto’s lead and allow illegal immigrants full access to city services. Not only will this make Hamilton a haven for illegal refugees but it will add thousands of new claimants to an already overburdened system and be a slap in the face to every immigrant  who obeyed the law and entered Canada legally.
