LETTER: Terms not always endearing

Have you noticed the prevalence of terms of endearment being used in today’s business world? Sadly, the offenders are primarily female. I can honestly say, I do not encounter this rudeness from males.
It has become an epidemic and is completely unacceptable, inappropriate and unprofessional.
I realize there are some who would defend this obnoxious behaviour by saying their intention is not to offend because it is all about being friendly.
Well, to those folks, I would like to point out just how offensive this behaviour actually is. How we address someone places us in relationship with them, however fleeting. It reveals our personal attitude/bias toward them, and in most cases does come across as condescending and disrespectful, whether intentional or not.
In the public domain and as a general rule, I believe it is time to reintroduce civility and good manners. I have a name and so do you.
I also have a personal preference to be treated with the egalitarian respect I deserve, because ultimately, I’m not your “Honey, Dear.”
