Nothing like using emotion over intellect on gun issues, while insulting the public’s intelligence on the matter.
Any gun in the hands of criminals or violent people is a problem. Many of the past mass shootings involved people with some sort of mental illness, which is a much bigger issue that needs to be addressed.
Gun crime in the U.S. has been declining for some time. Even after the expiration of the so-called assault weapons ban in 2004.
This ban, which was part of the 1994 Crime Bill, was not really a ban. Nothing was actually banned — Americans could still buy, sell, trade, have and use any of the millions of affected firearms and accessories. What the law did was prohibit manufacturers and importers from selling newly made firearms of that type and it was a crime for the public to get them.
The assault weapons ban, like all other gun laws, did nothing about the very real problem of getting armed and violent criminals off the streets. The assault weapons ban was a failure.
There are already about 21,000 gun laws on the books in the U.S. More gun laws based on emotion will never work.
