LETTER: Never too late to stop or slow closure of Hill Park

The central Mountain high school closure process has been playing for the past two years and it’s going to affect us all in one way or another for decades to come.
The public has been denied any input regarding the final Hill Park decision and subsequent accelerated timeframe. The board and most other area trustees seem intent on closing the schools (Hill Park physically and Barton by name) before the next election and hope the public forgives and forgets. The board adds further insult to injury by planning to also gut our area of early grade schools and all we get in return is their new headquarters so we have something to remember them by.
The board and other area trustees need to wake up and realize the signatures on all those petitions to spare Hill Park are not only names within Ward 7 but also names of people who live in other wards as well.
If the thousands of signatures don’t change some trustees’ minds — especially those with other political aspirations — then parents have one remaining option within their own control to get the public school board’s attention: they can send their children to a closer Catholic high school.
We have a voice, no matter what the board thinks, and we can still have a say before this process reaches its conclusion.
