LETTER: Abortion message lost in method

To the group that holds the graphic signs on the Lincoln Alexander Parkway overpasses:
While I applaud your passion and your message, I encourage you to change your method.
First, because your graphic signs slows traffic to a crawl and causes driver distraction which could potentially cause an accident.
Second, because you could be doing more harm than good to those outside of your target audience because of the graphic nature of your signs.
Recently, I had four of my daughters in the car with me, two under the age of 10, when we encountered your sign on an overpass.
One of my younger daughters asked about the sign.
Do you want to traumatize young children?
I lost my only son 10 years ago due to a miscarriage. After seeing your sign, I had a bad dream, the only one I’ve had since losing my son. Do you want to traumatize women?
This week I found a flyer on the handle of my front door. I’m so glad I was the one to find it and not one of my daughters. I don’t want my children to be traumatized by these graphic depictions.
I realize your message is important, but I believe your purpose could be better served through other means which could more effectively reach your target audience. Please reconsider your methods of getting your message out.
