Guns should be silenced at 11th hour of 11th day of 11th month

My wife and I were unable to attend formal remembrance day ceremonies this year, but nonetheless stopped to observe two minutes of silence at 11 a.m.

Just before we stopped, my wife brought a radio outside and we observed the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum’s B-25 Mitchell flying west along Mud Street. My wife was clutching a picture of her great uncle, an Italian fighter pilot downed in a macchi (plane) never to be seen again

I was reflecting on the many sacrifices of my Maltese relatives and of all service men in general.

At that moment, my wife remarked that she wished our neighbours to the south, the Hamilton Gun Club would stop shooting for a couple of minutes. They never did.

We thought – how ironic that on this of all days, those incompassionate and disrespectful sport shooters couldn’t silence their guns for two minutes of observance. We are of the opinion that the Hamilton Gun Club owes all it neighbours and local veterans an apology.
