Re; Lower bag limit and more enforcement on committee’s wish list, Stoney Creek News, Jan. 26,
I don’t think the answer is a bi-weekly, six-container limit. I think the answer is that people need to educate themselves as to what can be put in the green and blue boxes.
The City of Hamilton Web site section on waste management has a clear description of everything that can put in these boxes. For example, pizza boxes go in the green bin, not the blue box.
People need to familiarize themselves with it, print the list and put it on their refrigerator – there is a lot more that can be put in these boxes then most people think. I agree with John Hawker that going with six bags is going backwards.
Residents also need to check on the City of Hamilton Web site to see when they are allowed to put out three bags and use these weeks to put out excess garbage.
One big tip I learned with the kitchen garbage bags is to get as much air of them as possible – this will allow more room in the garbage bag that is taken out to the curb each week. With everyone being so focused on the environment these days, education is the answer not increasing the bag limit.
