Concession Street. What this street means to you is probably different than what it means to your neighbours, friends and family here on Hamilton Mountain and in other parts of the city. It could be the modern medical services found at the Juravinski Hospital, the spectacular views at Sam Lawrence Park or the great family neighbourhoods that surround it.
Two features of the street that resonate with many of these people, however, are the excellent businesses that call Concession Street home and Concession Streetfest.
On June 7, the Concession Street Business Improvement Area (BIA) will host the 18th Concession Streetfest. Running from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m., the event will take place on the street between Upper Wentworth and East 25th. The road will be closed to traffic to allow people to wander the street and take in all of the sights and sounds of the festival. This is a free family oriented event.
Anchoring the event are the businesses of the BIA. Many of the merchants on the street will be set up outside of their stores to welcome you to their place of business and to highlight the great items and services that they offer. Others will have sales inside.
Over 60 craft vendors will also be selling everything from unique jewelry and charms to clothes for all shapes and sizes to vinyl records and everything in between.
With Father’s Day just around the corner, here’s a great chance to pick up that unique and special gift for the Dad in your life.
One of the alluring features of outdoor events are the tantalizing aromas that waft over the crowd as restaurants and food vendors prepare their creations for hungry festival goers. Streetfest is no different. Visitors to Concession Street will be able to grab a meal from some of the BIA’s superb restaurants or street vendors offering a variety of dishes to satisfy any palate.
What would an outdoor festival be without free live music for all ages and tastes? Streetfest will boast three stage areas at different points on the street plus the RBC Kidzone that will offer entertainment and attractions for all ages.
For a complete list of the day’s entertainment and activities, go to the BIA website at www.concessionstreet.net.
For those people attending Streetfest, we believe that Concession Street will come to mean great businesses who put on a superb family event that is worthy of a return visit in the years to come. Enjoy!
