COMMUNITY COLUMNIST: Book a librarian to help you with your tech questions

Do you get stumped trying to make sense of your tablet, eReader or new operating system? Do you have trouble trying to access and use the growing digital collection at the Hamilton Public Library?
Help is closer than you think — and best of all, it’s free!
Under the banner of TechAid@HPL, Hamilton Public Library offers a variety of tech help to customers in the Hamilton community.
For more than a decade, we have been offering adult computer training programs. Topics include everything from basic computer essentials, to developing new special interest computer topics such as genealogy, social media, cooking and travel.
Did you know that you can also book an appointment at many of our branches to meet with our knowledgeable library staff for a one-on-one session?
Book-a-Librarian sessions can assist with a variety of issues. For example, helping you create a contact list on your iPad, registering you with an email account, downloading apps from your favourite online stores, downloading e-books from HPL’s digital collection and showing you how to access services like Zinio, Freegal and Hoopla for free magazines, music and movies.
Book-a-Librarian appointments can be made for up to one hour and can be arranged in advance at these library branch locations: Ancaster, Barton, Central, Concession, Dundas, Kenilworth, Locke, Red Hill, Saltfleet, Sherwood, Stoney Creek, Terryberry, Turner Park, Valley Park and Westdale.
All you need to do is bring your laptop or mobile device and your question, and together with a staff member we will work to resolve your question.
Simply call up a branch location to ask about setting up a convenient time to meet.
