For city management to present a 3.6 per cent budget increase after their initial September request for 5.5 per cent indicates to me that city management — as well as the police chief — still does not get it.
As long as public sector wages and benefits consume more than 80 per cent of the budget and the average public sector employee takes twice as many sick days as the private sector employee and as long as massive waste within the system is not taken seriously then these unsustainable increases will continue to be presented. The solution is obvious.
