Re: Communities important for those with disabilities, Oct. 10.
There have been articles in the paper concerning the proposed home for the disabled by the Dundas Living Centre. That’s good to see.
I would like to comment on the remark made at Queen’s Park on Sept. 19 by MPP Ted McMeekin that was aired on CHCH TV. He made a statement – “jumping the queue over those who have been waiting for some time to get access to services who are playing by the rules.”
These people waiting on the list are there because of forced submission. They have no choice with the present system. Sad, but true. The group from the Dundas Living Center is doing the government a service by relieving the wait time. Their plan also saves the government thousands of dollars a year.
The study that is currently done by the ombudsman office should include all people on the wait list, not just the ones who are facing a “crisis situation,” which, by the way, has been created by the government’s lack of action.
