Bigger is never better not consideration in amalgamation

 Les Farrington, Ancaster

It is hardly surprising — given the revelations by the associate professor of political science at Western University that amalgamation in Ontario has resulted in even more bureaucracy and higher costs — that the debate should be reignited.

I don’t believe many think it practical to unscramble the egg at this late stage, but I do believe we are due an explanation, especially from the proponents of amalgamation who, in their eagerness to prove they knew better than the overwhelming majority of citizens, went ahead and shoved this legislation down our throats.

Personally, I would like to know why the promised cost savings, greater efficiency and manpower savings never materialized. Obviously, the fact that, in the case of  government, bigger is never better was not a consideration.
