Ancaster’s Spring Valley Arena renovation miscalculation must be record

Re: Price of Spring Valley Arena jumps to $1.2 million, July 3.

I was not surprised to learn councillor Lloyd Ferguson was “blown away” when city staff advised him  that the renovation to dressing rooms at Spring Valley Arena had jumped from $400,000 to $1.2 million.

We are well aware that many public projects, even with exorbitant initial price tags, are rarely completed on budget, but a 200 per cent miscalculation must be a new record.

This project is supposed to be a renovation to dressing rooms in a hockey arena _ a very basic undertaking — why is it costing as much as a large luxury home.

Perhaps the city might like to explain to the public why the cost has gone through the roof.
