LETTER: Science wouldn’t mislead public on climate change

Hamilton Mountain News

Re: Weather comes and goes … on and on (Aug. 7)

I am not an environmental scientist though I will admit up front that I have a natural bias towards science. That said, I was hard pressed to make sense of Mr. Bowes’ column.

I wonder if he believes that scientists who have been measuring the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere since 1958 have been falsifying their results for 56 years. Or perhaps he believes that even with increased carbon dioxide, the long wave radiation reflected off the Earth is able to exit out of our atmosphere despite multiple physics researchers having run experiments that demonstrate otherwise.

I wonder if he believes editors and reviewers of scientific research peer reviewed journals published around the world have intentionally misinformed the general public for several decades.

Would he also be suggesting that the Royal Society in the U.K., the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, the Royal Society of Canada, along with similar organizations in 15 other countries, who all endorse the science of global climate change, are all in collusion.

I wonder if Mr. Bowes knows that when we talk about climate change we are speaking of a global phenomenon not strictly limited to Hamilton in the last 150 years.
