The City of Hamilton recently held a number of forums to debate the casino question. A spokesperson for the OLG (Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation) claimed that a downtown casino would create 400 to 600 jobs.
The Flamboro Downs location is responsible for 4,000 direct or indirect jobs. So if the government numbers are accurate, the end result would be a huge net loss of jobs for our area.
At the City Hall forum, an economics professor from McMaster University stated that in her expert opinion the best location for a casino in the City of Hamilton is the current one at Flamboro Downs.
Flamboro Downs is currently owned and operated by Great Canadian Gaming Corporation, a public traded Canadian entity. The have invested heavily in this community and deserve the chance to continue to operate their business here. I would ask all readers to contact their city councillor and urge them to support a casino if it is allowed to remain where it is at Flamboro Downs.
