As residents of Dundas, we are concerned that the Transportation Safety Board [TSB] reported last week that the DOT 111 crude oil tanker railroad cars are a serious risk and need to be replaced ASAP. These cars pass through Dundas every day on 100-car freight trains that pass by our homes and families and negotiate a steep grade and a reasonably sharp curve at the bottom of the hill near the York Road bridge.
The people who represent our ridings have been silent since Lac Megantic and other rail incidents that are regularly reported in the news. They have been silent about what they intend to say or do on our behalf.
I am looking forward to a public statement on the next steps politicians intend to pursue on this serious problem that threatens the safety, health and welfare of Dundasians.
