As expected, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats will be forced to play a third home game at McMaster University’s Ron Joyce Stadium on Aug. 16.
The CFL team is making plans for another game at the 6,000-seat stadium on Aug. 16 due to construction delays at Tim Hortons Field. Friday’s announcement ends any hope the team had of opening the new stadium for this month’s game against the Calgary Stampeders.
In a statement released by the City of Hamilton on Aug. 1, building consortium Ontario Sports Solutions has indicated it still plans to have the stadium ready for the Sept. 1 Labour Day Classic.
Ontario Sports Solutions is contractually obligated to pay the Tiger-Cats $1 million for every home game missed.
More to come.
