Nick Davies is hoping to fill a big, yellow school bus with food bank donations this Saturday at the Sobeys in the Meadowlands shopping centre.

Stuff the bus success

Nick Davies is extending his successful food collections to Ancaster’s Meadowlands.
For four years, Davies has been holding “Stuff the bus” collections for the Neighbour to Neighbour food bank at various grocery stores on Hamilton Mountain.
Saturday, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., he’ll be at the Meadowlands Sobey’s on Golf Links Road. He’s hoping to fill a full-sized school bus.
“I feel that food security is one of the hardest things for people who are down on their luck,” says the east Mountain resident.
Without having to worry about putting food on the table, those people are better able to pay their rent or monthly bills, he says.
Earlier this week, Davies started handing out flyers door to door to let area residents know how they could help.
Davies, who is finishing his first year of studying commerce at McMaster, organized his first “Stuff the bus” collection as a Grade 10 student at Westmount. Last year, he started doing monthly fundraisers.
He estimates last year he received about $58,000 in food donations.
He’s planning one collection a month until December, at a different Mountain grocery store each time.
